City of Ekurhuleni hosts career expo

This initiative is designed to foster career and professional progression and to honor excellence among women in various sectors.

On August 23, the City of Ekurhuleni held a career expo at Primrose High School as part of city manager Dr Imogen Mashazi’s legacy project.

This initiative aims to empower women employed by the city and foster career and professional growth while honoring excellence among women across various sectors.

The expo targeted Grade 10 and 11 girls, providing them with opportunities to explore diverse career paths and interact with female role models.

The event sought to inspire young women to challenge traditional gender norms and aspire to leadership roles in various fields.

Acting city manager Thokozane Maseko addressed the attendees, urging them to remain focused and ambitious.

“Character will help you through tough times, and courage is essential to pursue your dreams.

“Today, we are showcasing successful women in different fields to demonstrate that women can excel in any industry,” Maseko stated.

In addition to the career expo, the city introduced a vegetable garden project.

Maseko encouraged the students to care for the garden and recognise the importance of agriculture in addressing hunger and food shortages.

City spokesperson Zweli Dlamini emphasised the importance of networking and mentorship for career development.

“Mentorship can significantly impact future success. By aligning the expo with Women’s Month, we highlight the ongoing need for advocacy in women’s rights and empowerment, reminding the next generation of their role in this journey,” Dlamini said.

This event marks the seventh year of the legacy project, which continues to support and inspire young women in their career aspirations.
