Elsburg Wrestling Club continues to make strides

The Elsburg Wrestling Club continues to make its mark in the wrestling community, consistently producing wrestlers who excel at national and international levels.

Under the leadership of head coach Derick Brewis and assistant coaches Tobie Alberts (jr) and Tobie Alberts (sr), the club has become a home of stars.

One of the club’s shining stars, Lillian Mabena, was selected to represent SA in the All-African Beach Wrestling Tournament in the Republic of Senegal on June 20.

Upon her return, Mabena will aim for her 10th national title at the upcoming championships.

Her hard work, dedication, and the club’s support led her to where she is now.

Her journey started in 2017, and she has not looked back since.

“Since she stepped onto the mat, Lillian has captured an impressive nine national titles.

“She has caught the attention of the national federation and the United World Wrestling Federation, earning her a spot in their prestigious development programmes.

“We are proud to be her coaches and see what she has achieved,” said Brewis.

Last April, Mabena showcased her talent at a training camp and competition in Mauritius, securing a gold medal in freestyle wrestling and a silver in beach wrestling.

Her remarkable journey continued in March at the All-African Games, where she brought home a bronze medal, making her club and country proud.

The club continues to produce quality wrestlers as they gear up for the National Cadet, Junior, and Senior Championships in Brakpan from June 28 to 29.

Three standout wrestlers and a dedicated team of officials and coaches will represent the club, showcasing the club’s talent.

Bradley Stander, who began wrestling at 19, has already made a name for himself.

He won a silver medal in the senior freestyle division and will compete in the senior freestyle and Greco-Roman categories at the championships.

Another promising talent is Eluchka Britz, who has already made her mark on the national stage.

She will compete in the cadet division, a category above her usual age group, to further hone her skills and prepare for future challenges.

“We are excited as a club with all the championships our wrestlers will participate in.

“The success of the Elsburg Wrestling Club is a testament to the collective effort of its members and the wrestlers’ dedication.

He invited those interested in wrestling.
