CGA athlete scores a scholarship

She stands a chance to compete in the national championships in Secunda on December 2

Siphesihle Ndjebo, an athlete from Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA), was recently awarded a scholarship to study at Queens High School.

Ndjebo is from Zonkizizwe, Katlehong, and she is a Grade Seven learner who attends Emanzini Primary School.

The 13-year-old athlete represented the province in Pietermaritzburg earlier this year at the SA Primary Schools Athletics Championships.

According to her coach Thulani Sibeko of Sibeko Training Group, Ndjebo is a dedicated and talented athlete who has worked hard.

“I met Siphesihle in Pietermaritzburg after she had just competed at the championships. I soon recruited her to train with me at the Germiston stadium weekly,” said Sibeko.

“She has since competed at the CGA competitions in the girl’s u13 100m and 200m races. She is expected to compete in the last league to qualify for the national championships in Secunda on December 2,” said Sibeko.

Sibeko said through his contacts he was able to obtain a scholarship for Siphesihle.

“Her athletic ability secured her the scholarship as she was required to represent Queens in several competitions. The scholarship will be effective from next year,” said Sibeko.

Biotumelo Masuku is one of the athletes training at the Germiston stadium with Sibeko and she also studies at Queens through the same programme.

He said he hoped both athletes would excel not only in sports but in academics as well.

“My dream is to see some of my athletes go overseas to pursue their passions and careers. We know the dream is possible as we have Nadia Calore, a former athlete of mine who is now studying at the University of Charleston, West Virginia.”

Siphesihle’s mother Dipuo Ndjebo said she will forever be grateful for this opportunity.

“It was going to be impossible for me to get her enrolled at the school because of the school fees,” said Ndjebo.

“The family is overjoyed by this kindness. We believe that she will reach her peak performance in both academics and athletics, Through her work ethic she will bear the fruit of success,” said Ndjebo.
