Germiston Bedfordview SPCA’s Saturday book sale is back

Locals urged to support the Germiston Bedfordview's Saturday book sale.

Following a short hiatus, Germiston Bedfordview SPCA’s fundraising book sale is back at Pick n Pay Primrose on Saturdays.
Funds made through the selling of books contribute towards the branch’s salaries, electricity, vaccination, and veterinary bills as well as their vehicle management.
Volunteers Sheila Menney and Stephanie Haahjem explained, “We get a lot of pet food donated which is nice.
“As well as clothing which we sell in our charity shop but the branch desperately needs cash to pay their bills.”
The books are sold for R10 each and all the profits go to the SPCA.
“By supporting the book sale you are supporting the SPCA which has such an important job.
“Through the programme, we are also encouraging a reading culture in the community.
“We have all kinds of books including children’s books,” said the pair.
To donate books the community can visit the SPCA or the bookstall on Saturdays.
Management committee member Christine Kuch expressed heartfelt gratitude to Pick n Pay Primrose for allowing the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA to hold their weekly book sales.
“This is an example of how Pick n Pay is living up to the community support and welfare standards of the late Raymond Ackerman and the Pick n Pay principles.
“Appreciation and recognition,” she said.
She added that book sales and other events are an example of how people can work for the animals.
“We are appealing to the community as well to remember your local SPCA when clearing out or downsizing.
“Thrift shop sales contribute too.
“Clothes that no longer fit or are hidden at the back of the cupboard can be helpful contributions to raising funds.”
