Vryburg High learner fights in Abu Dhabi for Mixed Martial Arts

I participated in the under 16–17 age group. I was eliminated during the knockout rounds. My father was proud of me.

Kayden Wesson, a Grade 10 learner at Vryburg High School, represented South Africa at the 2023 IMMAF Youth MMA World Championships in Abu Dhabi.

The competition, hosted by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and MMA Federation, saw nearly 500 athletes from 42 nations participate.

Wesson showcased his skills and placed ninth overall in the competition.

Wesson credited his father as his best ally, stating that they went to Abu Dhabi together.

Wesson competed in the U16 to U17 age group and was eliminated during the knockout rounds.

However, he was proud of his performance and is now shifting his attention to his studies and preparation for regional competitions.

Wesson trains at Thunder MMA in Elsburg and Valhalla MMA and Fitness Centre in Alberton.

He has a passion for the sport and plans to pursue a career as a professional UFC fighter while also pursuing a degree in business management.
