Local police conduct operation against crime and GBV

During the operation, SAPS officers engaged in various activities to address prevalent crimes such as contact crimes, hijackings, rape, and assaults.

Bedfordview SAPS conducted a crime awareness campaign under the banner Operation Basadi Month on August 29.

The initiative aimed to address gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) and educate the public about the Victim Empowerment Centre.

“We wanted to implement visible policing measures to curb incidents of high-contact crimes such as hijackings, rapes, assaults and other forms of GBV,” said the SAPS Ekurhuleni district spokesperson, Captain Neldah Sekgobela.

The operation took place between 09:00 to 14:00 on Boeing Road next to Gillooys Interchange.

Safety pamphlets were distributed to the community.

“The community was pleased to see the police officers going out of their way and assisting the community at large,” added Sekgobela.
