Bedfordview police urge local motorists to remain vigilant

Police warned to be cautious and vigilant.

Motorists are urged to remain vigilant as police warn of an increase in hijackings.

Corporate communications officer at Bedfordview SAPS, Sergeant Lillian Modiga, urged drivers to be more vigilant on the road, especially at traffic ligths and stop signs as well as at work and or home entrances.

She advised that if followed by a suspicious vehicle to drive to the nearest garage or police station.

Identified hotspots at the moment are Elandsfontein and Klopperpark.

Here are some safety tips shared by the police:

• Stay vigilant on the road and in your surroundings.

• Lock your doors at all times.

• Ensure that your windows are closed or slightly opened.

• Stay alert and practice caution when approaching intersections and red traffic lights – criminals tend to use these as an opportunity to attack their victims.

• Place your valuables such as handbags and laptops in the boot of your car – never leave your valuables openly displayed on car seats.

• If someone cautions you that you have a flat tire drive to the nearest garage or place of safety to inspect your tire there.
