Germiston police empower high school girls

Leaners must have self love and care.

Pruning 2 Perfection Foundation (P2PF) is an NPO striving to make an impact in the lives of children and young people in Germiston.

On February 23 they hosted a motivational talk at Germiston SAPS during which various stakeholders were invited, including sponsors Old Mutual.

Lenae du Plooy, Thandolwethu Gumede, Naledi Makone and Merveille Kalufa received books from Florence Wanjiru founder of Pruning 2 Perfection Foundation (P2PF) and author of My Silence is Costly.

The event was facilitated by Sergeant Maxwell Mabunda and Sergeant Ramadimetja Ramokolo.

Dinwiddie High School and Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston High were also invited.

P2PF aims to educate, encourage and inspire through mentorship and coaching, using a holistic approach to spiritual, physical, mental, emotional and social intervention.

Florence Wanjiru said their role is to empower young people to be able to reach decision-making with esteem consciousness.

She shared her story of being a victim of sexual abuse at a young age and also wrote a book titled My Silence is Costly.

Sergeant Mpho Mokgawa said they hoped to encourage learners to open up about the challenges they face.

“Learners must nurture self-love and care. Personal hygiene is very important to a girl child,” said Makgawa, adding that learners were also advised to abstain from sex.

“Teenage pregnancy is a serious concern at high schools. We are here to offer the learners the support they may need,” said Mokgawa.

Learners were also gifted with gift packs which included sanitary packs, toothpaste, face towel and Old Mutual bottled juice among other items.

Speaker Hazel Moagi engaged with the audience on abuse, bullying, contraceptives, STI’s and sexual assault.

Moagi advised learners to report cases of sexual abuse to the police or clinic within 72 hours to gather evidence and offer necessary help to prevent infections, the transmission of diseases and chances of falling pregnant.
