Locals join hands for a clean-up operation
Residents met at the corner of Van Der Merwe and Voortrekker streets to kick start the day's clean up activities
Ward 39 residents are taking matters to improve their environment into their own hands.

Elsburg resident Charlotte Klopper partnered with Lambton resident Tanya Bezuidenhout, founder of The People’s Voice (TVP) community organisation, last week Friday for a clean-up.
The purpose of the partnership is to kick-start a movement to get residents to take ownership of their suburbs.
“Ward 39 has several challenges and since Elsburg is part of the ward we have decided to join with TVP to get our area nice and clean again,” said Klopper.
The clean-up started at the corner of Van Der Merwe and Voortrekker streets and it is hoped the initiative will inspire others to take action and look after their immediate environment.

“People are disheartened by the way things look. Residents are losing hope. I believe we can turn the situation around,” said Klopper.
Bezuidenhout is excited about Elsburg taking a stand to clean up the area.
She said TPV is aimed at the community working together for the greater good.
“It’s an NPO and we rely solely on the kindness of the residents.
“Depending on the community project of the day we ask for donations of what is needed to complete the task at hand for the day.
“People also donated their time and resources,” said Bezuidenhout.

“We have so much going on and we need one another as a community.”
She said TPV is on a mission to make Ward 39 beautiful again.
