The home underwent major repairs and maintenance earlier this year, sponsored by The Reatile Foundation Trust.

The maintenance and repairs included roofing, painting, flooring, ceilings, and a kitchen makeover.

Epworth cares for over 90 children and has recently transformed into a therapeutic environment where the children are given an opportunity of breaking the cycle of abuse and neglect.

The home has an ECD centre and offers community development and transformation outreach programmes supporting schools and disadvantaged communities.

“The vision of Reatile Foundation Trust is to eradicate inequality by improving the lives of disadvantaged communities in South Africa,” said the trust administrator, Emily Faro.

“The foundation serves several developmental and social upliftment projects, which include tertiary and scholarship education programmes, community upliftment programmes, assisting other non-profit organisations and thereby making a difference in disadvantaged communities. Epworth Children’s Home is one of the many projects carried out this year,” she said.

At the official handover, the chairman of Reatile Foundation Trust, Simphiwe Mehlomakulu, applauded the Epworth Children’s Home for the work they are doing in ensuring there is dignity in the children’s lives.
