Ekurhuleni police hunt for Wentzel’s killer

Since news of Wentzel’s death made headlines social media users have shared messages of condolences to his family and friends.

Sebenza SAPS has identified the victim of the Longmeadow Business Park murder investigation as Chad Wentzel.

The 58-year-old was killed on the evening of September 19.

Sebenza Police Station communications officer, Sergeant Sharon Tsotsotso, said the SAPS responded to the scene after paramedics declared Wentzel dead.

“A colleague of Wentzel initially called emergency services but he was declared dead at the scene,” said Tsotsotso.

A murder investigation was opened after officers arrived at the scene.Tsotsotso said Wentzel was killed a day after his birthday.

Since news of Wentzel’s death made headlines social media users have shared messages of condolences to his family and friends.

Many expressed shock, sadness and anger after learning about what happened.

Despite their heartache, they described Wentzel as being kind, full of energy and life, while some remembered the fond times they had spent with him.

Tsotsotso said Wentzel was struck once on the head with a hammer.

“It’s believed the victim and the suspect, an employee, were allegedly involved in an argument before the victim was struck,” said Tsotsotso.

“The suspect is believed to be on the run.”
