Local police urge for tavern compliance among liquor traders

The meeting was called by liquor officer Captain Johannes Mokgopha to address crime at these venues.

Elsburg SAPS and tavern owners gathered to discuss safety measures to keep tavern owners and customers safe during operational hours.

More than 20 liquor outlet owners attended the meeting.

The meeting was called by liquor officer Captain Johannes Mokgopha to address crime at these venues.

Sergeant Daphney Phooko, Elsburg SAPS communications officer said the station commander and other senior officers also attended the meeting.

“The meeting touched on issues of non-compliance, trading hours, verification of trading documents and selling liquor to children,” said Phooko.

“The safety of customers and communities lies with the police and liquor outlets owners,” she said.
