Elsburg Police arrest suspect for vehicle theft

The sentence was wholly suspended for five years on the condition that the accused is not convicted of theft of a motor vehicle.

Investigations by Elsburg SAPS detectives resulted in a 40-year-old man being sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment.

The sentence was wholly suspended for five years on the condition that the accused will not convicted of theft of a motor vehicle or possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle during the period of suspension.

The success of this conviction was ensured by Detective Warrant Officer Isaac Langa from the Ekurhuleni Trio Task Team.

The court case followed an incident on October 11, 2018 where the victim was stopped on the R59 Vereeniging Road by a vehicle that had blue lights.

The victim was thinking it was police officers. Five armed suspects overpowered the driver.

On October 27, 2018, one of the suspects was found in possession of the suspected stolen motor vehicle in Klippoortjie while police were conducting patrols in the area.

The station commander of Elsburg SAPS Lieutenant Colonel Thulane Manyoni commended Langa for his work in securing the conviction.
