According to passengers, the buses do not arrive on time, leaving them stranded until late.

A commuter told GCN that nothing has been communicated to commuters about why the buses fail to arrive on time.

“As a Primrose resident, taking the Ekurhuleni Bus to Johannesburg, Braamfontein and back is a convenient way of travelling. But if the transport is not reliable, it becomes a problem.”

According to commuters, the bus service has been unreliable since 2021.

“Bus drivers’ shifts are changed to other routes at the last minute. This has frustrated many commuters as we have noticed how the department seems to not care about individuals on our route.”

Commuters requested the CoE to keep the route and inform them of changes on time.

“We request our bus drivers to remain ours and should not be shifted to other routes at the last minute without notifying us on time. We must be able to make alternative transportation arrangements on time,” said a commuter.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, EBS experienced a high number of breakages between December 2021 and January 2022, which has affected some routes,” said Zweli Dlamini, City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson.

“The city is hard at work to resolve the matter and restore the service as soon as possible. Further developments will be communicated. Commuters must note that the matter is receiving urgent attention as a new fleet of buses is rolled out to augment the current ones and improve the service.

“Drivers are dispatched as per operational requirements and to distribute workload among the staff members,” said Dlamini.
