Khanyisa puts family first

“These are issues that many families are struggling with and need to be addressed and NAFFSA is doing that,” said khanyisa.

Women are the backbone of the community as they nurture families to ensure they are raised to be good members of society.

Other women nurture beyond their own families and step in to assist, nurture and educate society.

Khanyisa Mothema is a woman who goes the extra mile to create awareness on family issues.

The wife is an entrepreneur and CEO of the National Family Foundation of South Africa (NAFFSA).

“NAFFSA is an organisation, which focuses on education, community research, awareness-raising and reinforcing the capacity of community-led groups on issues of family strengthening and empowerment. These are issues that many families are struggling with and need to be addressed and NAFFSA is doing that,” said Khanyisa.

She has a show called Family Matters, which airs on Soweto TV. She said through this show, they can educate families.

“The show explores various dimensions of the family by looking at the historical, socioeconomic, cultural and traditional issues that impact families in South Africa. We bring in guests to discuss evidence-based topics that educate, inform and strengthen South African families to equip them with the necessary tools to address challenges at home and within their communities,” said Khanyisa.

Her passion for family life stems from the country’s history.

“The breakdown in South Africa’s family structure has been largely impacted by the country’s history as 64% of children are being raised by single mothers. For us as a country to become a strong nation, we have to restore the family structure. Our mental growth, well-being and stability depend on our upbringing and home environments,” said Khanyisa.

She said strong positive family relationships encourage a positive society.

“Dealing with conflict in the family helps us learn healthy and respectful ways to resolve problems in the future and in how we deal with others in society,” said Khanyisa.

The mother of five always puts her family first.

“I try my best to keep a schedule to make sure that my family never gets affected by the work I do,” said Khanyisa.
