DA calls for IDP submissions

Get involved in how metro spends your money.

The DA has urged the public to get involved in the way in which their money is spent by the metro.

“This is the time that residents can give input into the 2014/2015 Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and budget process in Ekurhuleni, which begins now,” said DA ward 92 councillor Graham Gersbach, in a press release, recently.

“Submissions made by residents are reviewed on an annual basis in each ward by the councillor, ward committee and metro officials,” he added.

Gersbach is calling on all Ekurhuleni residents to submit their input to him by September 6, by email on grahamgers@gmail.com, or by fax to 086 276 0982.

“Residents with suggestions on capital projects from which they think the area would benefit, and service delivery issues they would like addressed, have an opportunity to have their proposals heard,” he said.

He informed the GCN of ward 92’s priorities, as identified on the IDP:

  •  Storm water management.
  •  The upgrading of major roads, including sidewalks, storm water drains and left or right turn lanes as required.
  •  Development of Erf 40/63 IR, between Olifant, Serenade, Amber and Kraft roads, Elandsfontein, either through agreement with current owners or purchase of the property.
  •  Rehabilitation and upgrading of the electricity network in Northern Germiston with Elandsfontein/Elandsfontein Rail being a priority where there are small cables that need to be upgraded.
  •  Refurbishment of sewerage infrastructure in Impala Park/Bardene/Bartlett, Solheim and Highway Gardens, as required.

“Consideration must be given to what can be developed on the property,” said Gersbach.

“Priorities are a formal taxi rank opposite Elandsfontein Railway Station, with ablution facilities for commuters and residents, and a multi-purpose community centre, incorporating halls, a clinic and a library.

“The community is also looking for sports facilities, a primary school and a satellite police station.”

Gersbach said two churches have also been approached for space.

He was informed that the acquisition of land to construct a new Sunnyridge Power substation was also being considered.

Ward 92 includes all Germiston suburbs north of the N12 and some Germiston suburbs south of the N12, as well as Boksburg suburbs north of North Rand Road.

It also includes the following Germiston and Boksburg suburbs: Buurendal, Highway Gardens, Harmelia, Meadowdale, Meadowbrook, Klopper Park, Elandsfontein, Elandsfontein Rail, Sunnyridge, Sunnyrock, Activia Park, Henville, Tunney, Kruinhof, Greenhills Industrial, Gerdview north of Meppen Road/Park, Solheim East, Symhurst, the portion of Primrose between Symhurst and Wannenburghoogte, Wilbart, Rietfontein (east of Bedfordview), Jet Park, Bartlett and Bardene (including extensions) west of Atlas Road, Boksburg, and Witkoppie Ridge/Impala Park West.
