“The cable was cut into pieces but it still had electricity running through it. After stepping out of the car, the cables were still showing some sparks,” said Mavhivha.

“There was a loud sound as my car drove through the cable. The cable smashed the windscreen,” said Mavhivha.

Mavhivha’s car door was also damaged as well as the driver’s mirror and additional dents on the front of the vehicle.

City of Ekurhuleni’s electrical technicians visited the site to remove the pole and reconnected the cable that weekend.

Ward 92 Clr Graham Gersbach said, “On the day of the incident a truck hit the pole on the opposite side of the substation, resulting in the unstableness of cables connecting from that pole.

“Unfortunately the car was at the receiving end of the circumstances. I will assist the driver to complete property liability forms to enter a claim with the municipality.”
