Mark completes 496km challenge

Runner runs for a month to raise funds in Germiston.

Mark Clulow finished 31km to complete his 496km fund-raising challenge in support of the Guide Dogs Association of SA and Jenny’s Animal Care Centre.

On May 29, Clulow completed his 29km run at Wychwood Primary School, Germiston, after four hours. On Monday, he ran 31km.

The 496km challenge had simple protocols as Clulow had to run the same number of kilometres according to each day’s date in May to total 496km by end of May.

The Saturday event was to raise more funds towards Clulow’s cause that will be donated to the mentioned organisations.

Clulow said it all started when he saw an online video in January that explained the 496km challenge.

“Being a casual runner, it was difficult for me, especially after 15 days of running, but the week after that, I got stronger and today (May 29), I ran for four hours straight.”

Clulow has two Comrades Marathon entries under his belt and is a member of Fit 2000.

His main goal for the run was to raise R10 000. In support of Clulow’s cause, the organisations involved also called upon the greater support of the community to donate and give back to the cause.

Paul Selby and Tracy Bulivant pledged to donate R2.50 for each kilometre completed by all Fit 2000 members on the circuit.
