WATCH: Protestors take to CBD streets, demanding title deeds

Residents from Delville and Elsburg who reside in flats under the Ekurhuleni Housing Company, have taken to Germiston CBD streets this morning.

Protestors are demanding title deeds to RDP housing.

City of Ekurhuleni also recently issued a warning to the public to be aware of a scam that claims to be an invitation from the city to RDP housing beneficiaries to submit documents with personal information to provided fax and cellphone numbers.

It was then reported that some of the documents beneficiaries are requested to submit are IDs, birth certificates, marriage certificates and proof of residence. The scammers call on RDP housing beneficiaries who applied between 1996 to 2018 and are eligible for housing allocation in unspecified areas.

“The CoE reiterates that its RDP house allocation is conducted through community consultative process wherein city officials and ward councillors visit rightful beneficiaries in their communities to inform them of stages of allocations,”said CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini at the time.

This is a developing story.
