Tedstonville residents take to the streets to demand action

Residents of Tedstoneville took to the streets last Monday to protest about the lack of service delivery in the area and demanding electricity to be turned back on.

Residents of Tedstoneville took to the streets last Monday to protest about the lack of service delivery in the area and demanding electricity to be turned back on.

According to residents, the protest was prompted by electricity issues.

Residents told GCN by that time they had been without power for four days.

They demanded feedback from the councillor and City of Ekurhuleni.

Acting councillor Paulina Bodiba addressed the community and said power would be restored by 2pm that day. Power was restored on Tuesday.

Tedstonville residents talk to the councillor and police about their frustration with service delivery.

ā€œA meeting was held with community members at the Germiston offices and they handed over a memorandum to the chief whip in which they raised their concerns about service delivery in the area,ā€ said Bodiba.

Media liaison for the chief whipā€™s office Thabang Mashiyane said they are aware of the service delivery challenges in Tedstonville.

ā€œThree weeks ago the ANC councillors in Ekurhuleni visited Ward 42 through its delivery spot-check Wednesday programme. The purpose of the visit was to monitor the level of service delivery in the area.

ā€œThrough our interaction with the community in the area we discovered a number of service delivery issues including illegal electricity connections,ā€ said Mashiyane.

He said a report has been consolidated and sent to the executive.

ā€œThe ANC deployed Bodiba to the ward, but she was not formally introduced to the community due to lockdown regulations and public meetings were not permissible,ā€ said Mashiaya.

ā€œI want to apologise to the community for not formally introducing myself. I was only able to communicate with the ward committee. I had planned to meet with the community once lockdown regulations were eased up. I didnā€™t want to come into community groups and just jump in,ā€ said Bodibe.
