Edenglen couple Johnstone (Jack) and Annette Sutherland celebrated a milestone when they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

The celebrations were held on September 24.

Jack and Annette met in 1958 at a local dance hall in Aberdeen, Scotland. Two years later they were married.

In December 1967, Jack gave up his military and Annette her nursing career to immigrate to South Africa.

Jack’s uncle had opened a plastic factory and offered him a job, persuading him South Africa was the place to live.

They initially settled in Kensington and many years later moved to Edenglen.

The couple has two children – son Allen, who lives in Perth, Australia, and daughter Jacqueline, who lives in Greenstone.

They have five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Besides celebrating 60 years of love, Jack will celebrate another large milestone when he turns 80 in October.

Jack and Annette believe finding a balance between giving and taking and finding a true companion in your partner are the secrets to a successful marriage.
