Water shutdown scheduled for July 30 and 31

Rand Water will be decommissioning and removing 1.5 km of a failed portion of the old J6 pipeline that has been in service for 70 years.

Rand Water spokesperson Justice Mohale said the supply of water to Knight Gold Recovery, Edenbrooke Investment Central areas (Primrose Reservoir), Germiston and Wadeville will be affected.

“The portion of the pipeline forms part of the network that supplies the City of Ekurhuleni, the City of Johannesburg and the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipalities,” said Mohale.

“The decommissioning and removal of the old pipeline is a staged process to avoid water supply interruptions.

The first portion of the line is ready to be decommissioned and removed and requires a temporary connection between the remaining portion of old J6 pipeline and the new J6 pipeline to divert the water flow. The shutdown also includes the tie-in of the existing J10 and new J6 pipelines.”

The decommissioning is scheduled take place from July 30 to 31 with an estimated duration of 30 hours and 45minutes.

“Prior arrangements have been made with the relevant stakeholders to ensure that there will adequate water supplied during the period of the shutdown,” said Mohale.
