M7 Crash: Four killed in head-on collision

Two women and a fourth man sustained critical injuries.

Three men and a woman died in a head-on collision involving a single cab bakkie and a vehicle earlier today on the M7 road linking Katlehong and Zonkizizwe.

William Ntladi, DEMS spokesperson, said two women and a man also sustained critical injuries.

“Rescue teams from both Palm Ridge and Zonkizizwe fire stations responded. On arrival, three of the deceased and two injured patients from the vehicle were found on the scene. The Jaws of Life had to be used to recover the critically injured driver from the bakkie who was still trapped behind the steering wheel. The fourth deceased was a passenger in the bakkie. Her body was recovered next to the vehicle,” said Ntladi.

“The injured received pre-hospital medical treatment from both Gauteng provincial ambulances and private ambulance services on the scene prior transportation to Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital in Vosloorus. The deceased were handed over to the Forensic Pathologists to be taken to an appropriate facility in Germiston.

“The road had to be closed during the entire operation for traffic flow.”

Ntladi said the traffic officers from the City of Ekurhuleni are conducting further investigations.
