For residents of Ouklip Road in Hazel Park the cold of last week was made worse by the fact that they have not had power since 3.30pm on Wednesday.
The GCN was contacted by Julie Jones, a resident in the road, who said that although she and other residents in the road had called the metro’s call-taking centre numerous times to report the matter, as well as to get feedback, nothing had been done about the situation.
“The first reference number I received was apparently closed on Wednesday without anything being done,” Jones said.
“I do understand we will have power outages, it is a part of life, but extended power outages like this one and the inefficiency of the municipality is not good.”

Jones said she was not impressed with the service received from the metro’s call-taking centre.
“They either cut you off or have conversations with each other without speaking to the caller,” she said.
“I feel the department is inefficient and something needs to be done about it.
“We need to have people who are trustworthy, reliable and can escalate matters effectively to the correct people,” she said.
Jones added that the metro seems extremely unconcerned about the fact that residents in the road have not had electricity for days.
“No one has even come out to assess the problem or fix it,” she said.
The GCN requested comment from the metro on the matter, but at the time of going to press none had been received.
