Woman arrested for selling homemade beer

Katlehong North SAPS nabs woman for selling homemade beer and contravening the Disaster Management Act (Covid-19 Act).

A 53-year-old woman from the Palima Section of Katlehong was arrested by the Katlehong North police last Friday on a charge of contravening the Disaster Management Act (Covid-19 Act).

The woman was allegedly caught selling homemade pineapple beer.

“Officers found nine 40-litre buckets and several 20-litre buckets containing the homemade pineapple beer at the suspect’s home during her arrest,” said Capt Lesetja Mathobela, communications officer for the Katlehong North police.

“The beer was seized and destroyed in the suspect’s presence by instruction of the Katlehong North SAPS station commander, Col Raymond Buthelezi.”

The suspect was taken to the Katlehong North Police Station and will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
