Laerskool Elspark gets ready to welcome back Grade Sevens

The school will set up 56 sanitising stations throughout the school.

With Grade Seven and Grade 12 learners set to return to school on June 1, Laerskool Elspark is preparing.

Principal of the school Fred Gericke told the GCN on Friday they are looking forward to welcoming back 130 of their Grade Seven learners.

The personal protective equipment (PPE) and sanitiser given to Laerskool Elspark by the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE). Principal of the school Fred Gericke said the school is grateful to the GDE for the assistance.

“The children who are not returning to school yet must login to the live class every day to continue their schooling,” said Gericke.

The school is setting up 56 sanitising stations to be placed strategically throughout the school and the premises will be deep cleaned before learners and staff return.

“The government gave us the initial personal protective equipment (PPE) and sanitiser for the school management team and we will be receiving the rest from government soon.

“We appreciate the Gauteng Department of Education’s assistance,” Gericke said.

The school has also purchased their own supplies of PPE and sanitiser, and they have had two cloth masks made, according to size requirements, for each learner.

Overall, the school has 1 300 learners from Grade 000 to Grade Seven.

“The phase-in is not going to be easy, but we will be ready to face the challenges,” Gericke said.
