Local company helps to feed the needy

Local company Johnson Matthey South Africa (JMSA), based in Germiston South, is proud to say it is immersed within and dedicated to helping its local community.

It was only natural for the company to help families left in need by the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown.

JMSA, with the help of Ward 93 councillor Geoffrey Mthembu, Ward 35 councillor Oupa Tshabalala, Ward 35 committee member Ntuthuzelo Mpambani and Ward 21 councillor France Ngomane, recently donated food parcels to 150 families.

The parcels were made up of a 10kg bag of mealie meal, a 5kg bag of rice, a 5kg bag of samp, two litres of cooking oil, a 1kg bag of oats, a 1kg bag of mabele, a 1kg bag of washing powder, two sunlight laundry bars, four tins of baked beans, two tins of soup, a bag of potatoes and a bag of oranges.

“The recipients were identified by the councillors of each ward,” explained Tobeka Xoko, the company’s well-being and community involvement leader.

The handover was originally scheduled to take place at the Germiston Police Station, but due to an alleged disruption by members of the EFF, the parcels were instead handed over to the councillors who gave them to their intended recipients.

The company believes that projects like this are important considering the harsh impact of Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdown.

“We hope to make a difference in our local community through projects such as this. We will continue to build a healthy relationship between local community members and the company in the future,” said Tobeka.
