Pastor celebrates her birthday by helping the community

A local pastor turned her birthday celebration into a celebration of giving to the needy.

Past Julianah Socikwa from Christ Embassy Elsburg celebrated her 50th birthday on May 15.

Socikwa decided to share more than cake on the day.

She blessed the communities of Elsburg, Graceland, Tedstoneville and Ramaphosa with food parcels.

The pastor used her birthday to ask congregants to help raise money to buy groceries for the needy.

Socikwa, with the church, managed to raise enough money to donate 154 food parcels.

One of the church’s pastors, Past Vanessa de Jagger, said they were more than happy to celebrate Socikwa’s birthday in such a manner.

“Many thanks to Past Socikwa for turning 50 and for her love for the community, which is to such an extent that she dedicated her golden jubilee to the community.

“It is known that every child is your child, but today it became every family is your family,” said de Jagger.

“Many people are affected by and become victims of Covid-19, and sharing the little we have is important.”

Socikwa said, “We praise and honour the Almighty God for such a moment of showing love to one another, especially in such a time as this.

“Many thanks to our Elsburg community leaders and the government authorities for their support towards making our project a success.”

She said as a church they were happy to be able to play a role.

“Christ Embassy Elsburg will always be there for our community with love,” said Socikwa.

Elsburg community leader Prince Rulashe said they are pleased to see the church feeding more than the soul.

“Churches are closed.

“People are unable to gather to worship, but today the church members worshiped in a different way.

“They fed the needy,” said Rulashe.

He said they were happy the church is playing a role.

“The church asked for our assistance to identify families in need in Elsburg.

“We were pleased because we have a number of needy people.

“These 154 food parcels mean that 154 people will not be going hungry for the next few days,” said Rulashe.

“We thank the church for their contribution of food parcels on behalf of the community of Elsburg.

“They are really grateful and we hope God will bless them in return for their good deeds.”
