One road fatality recorded over Easter weekend in Ekurhuleni

EMPD officers were out in full force over the Easter weekend.

Over the Easter weekend, the EMPD conducted various operations paired with the enforcement of the lockdown regulations in Ekurhuleni.

Twenty roving and static roadblocks were staged in the east, south and north of the metro.

Officers stopped 2 001 motor vehicles during the operations and 880 traffic fines were issued for moving violations, defects and documentation (not in possession or failing to carry a driver’s licence/professional driver’s permit).

Eleven motorists were arrested for driving while intoxicated and seven unroadworthy motor vehicles were discontinued from operating on a public road.

“Unfortunately, a fatal crash took place on April 12 at 7.38pm in the Alberton area.

“A male passenger died after the driver of the Toyota light delivery vehicle he was in lost control of the vehicle on JG Strijdom Road and the vehicle rolled,” said Kobeli Mokheseng, spokesperson for the EMPD.

A case of culpable homicide has been registered at the Brackendowns Police Station to determine the cause of the accident and for further investigations.

All the arrestees are expected to appear in various magistrate’s courts soon.
