Another victorious weekend for the Eagles

Elsburg Eagles took on Thokoza Cricket Club recently.

The Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club continued their Easterns Cricket League campaign, recently.

The club hosted Thokoza Cricket Club on March 8 in the Sunday Directors League.

Elsburg batted first and set a target of 250 runs for 10 wickets in their 50 overs.

The top batsmen were Johan van Greunen with 75 runs not out, and Frank Williams with 39 runs.

Thokoza came in to bat and got 134 runs for 10 wickets in their 50 overs securing Elsburg a 116-run victory.

The match’s top bowler, with the man of the match award, was van Greunen with six wickets for 15 runs in eight overs.

Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club and Thokoza Cricket Club faced each other in the Easterns Cricket League’s Sunday Directors League at the Elsburg Sports Complex on Sunday.

As the cricket season is at an end, the club’s chairperson, Martiens Grobler, said they are looking for new members.

“We would like to invite new players who want to join the club next season to come down to the club and have a talk with us.

“We are looking at enrolling more junior and senior sides next season,” said Grobler.

He said the club is growing and they would like to get an idea of how many teams they can have next season.

The club also recently had their AGM and elected a new committee.

The committee is as follows:

• Chairperson: Martiens Grobler

• Vice-chairperson: Len Jacobs

• Secretary: Carolina Jacobs

• Club captain: Theuns Herbst

• Senior additional member: Darren Van Tonder

• Junior additional members: Ruan Prinsloo and Edmund Ackerman

• Senior head coach: Johan van Greunen

• Junior head coaches: Theuns Herbst and Ruan Prinsloo.
