Two killed and two injured in N17 collision

Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a fatal accident scene on the N17 highway, last Sunday night.

Netcare 911 paramedics were called to the scene of a light motor vehicle collision on the N17 highway, near Rand Airport, at around 9.33pm last Sunday night.

“Reports from the scene indicated that a light motor vehicle had struck two pedestrians who were crossing the road,” explained Shawn Herbst, media liaison officer for Netcare 911.

“The impact resulted in the vehicle rolling several times before it came to rest in a ditch in a nearby veld.”

Paramedics on scene confirmed the pedestrians, both men believed to be in their 30s, had sustained fatal injuries.

They were declared dead on the scene.

“The vehicle’s male driver sustained serious injuries and required advanced life support interventions to stabilise him,” said Herbst.

“His female passenger sustained moderate injuries in the rollover.”

Both were treated on scene and once stabilised they were transported by Netcare 911 ambulance and government ambulance to hospital for further treatment.
