Renovations underway at Germiston Stadium

The Germiston Stadium has been closed for renovations since November 2019, and is set to reopen in August 2020.

Many Germiston residents might have noticed that the Germiston Stadium has been eerily quiet since November 2019.

The usually busy stadium, which is often host to a number of sporting events, has been closed by the metro for renovations.

“It is expected that the upgrades will be completed by July 31,” said metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe.

“It will then reopen for public use in August.”

When asked why the metro decided to undertake the renovations, Gadebe explained that the track had not been resurfaced in 15 years and that the wear and tear was beginning to show.

“It was for this reason we decided to renovate,” said Gadebe.

“But it is not only the track that will be renovated, the stadium’s main field will also receive attention as it is also used often during athletics competitions and other sporting events.”

Gadebe stated that the fields outside of the stadium would be open for use during the renovations.

“Only the main arena is affected by this project, both field B and C are fully operational,” said Gadebe.
