Five pedestrians killed in the Germiston area over festive period
The EMPD had a busy festive season in the Germiston area.
Five fatal accidents were recorded in the Germiston area over the festive period.
The EMPD said the accidents occurred between December 1 and January 5.
All five fatalities were male pedestrians.
In the first incident on December 10 at 4.38pm in the Elsburg area, a male pedestrian died when he was knocked over by the driver of a hatchback on the N17 east highway, between the Guthrie and Heidelberg bridges.
Then on December 14, in Primrose, at 9.21pm, a male pedestrian died following a hit-and-run on the corner of Main Reef and Stanley roads.

In Katlehong, on December 15, at 2.35pm, a male pedestrian died after he was knocked over by a minibus taxi, on the corner of Sophangisa and Shai roads.
Then on December 20, at 10.55pm in the Germiston area, a male pedestrian died after he was knocked over by a Toyota sedan on the M2 highway east.
The fifth pedestrian was killed on December 25 at 9.49pm in Katlehong.
He was knocked over by the driver of a minibus taxi on the corner of Masakhane and Hospital roads.
The EMPD also issued 716 traffic fines to wrongdoers, 306 in Germiston and 410 in Katlehong.
A total of 84 drivers, 28 in Germiston and 56 in Katlehong, were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
