Many private school learners waited with bated breath for their final Independent Examinations Board (IEB) National Senior Certificate results.
The girls of Assumption Convent School, in Malvern East, were no different.
“We congratulate all our matrics of 2019, who achieved a 100 per cent pass rate,” said school principal Neville Workman.
Of the 49 candidates who sat for the final exams, 98 per cent achieved university exemption, which qualifies them to enter a university to pursue tertiary studies.
The learners earned 103 distinctions between them, which equates to 2.1 distinctions per learner.
Olivia Wood was the school’s top achiever and did not only achieve nine distinctions for Afrikaans, English, geography, history, life orientation, life sciences, mathematics, advanced programme mathematics and physical science, but also earned her place on the IEB outstanding achievements list and was in the IEB’s top one per cent for geography, life sciences and mathematics.
“We’re very proud of all our matrics; well done, girls,” said Workman.

The school’s other top achievers included:
• Jodie Langdon who achieved eight distinctions in Afrikaans, English, history, life orientation, life sciences, mathematics, advanced programme mathematics and physical science.
Langdon was also in the IEB’s top one per cent for English and life orientation.
• Amy Weinerlein who achieved eight distinctions in Afrikaans, English, history, life orientation, life sciences, mathematics, advanced programme mathematics and physical science.
Amy Weinerlein was also in the IEB’s top one per cent for Afrikaans and English.
• Chiara Bonanni who achieved six distinctions in accounting, Afrikaans, English, life orientation, life sciences and mathematics.
• Carmen Mileder who achieved six distinctions in Afrikaans, dramatic arts, English, life orientation, life sciences and mathematics.
• Ilhaam Wadvalla who achieved six distinctions in accounting, Afrikaans, English, life orientation, mathematics and advanced programme mathematics.
• Jade McIver who achieved five distinctions in Afrikaans, English, life orientation, life sciences and mathematics.
• Chinenye Ngwu who achieved five distinctions in Afrikaans, English, history, life orientation and life sciences.
• Alexia Markantonatos who achieved four distinctions in dramatic arts, English, life orientation and mathematics literacy.
• Téah Slabbert who achieved four distinctions in Afrikaans, English, life orientation and life sciences.
• Katie-Meg Weinerlein who achieved four distinctions in Afrikaans, English, life orientation and life sciences.
Katie-Meg Weinerlein was also in the IEB’s top one per cent for Afrikaans.

“Congratulations once again to our matrics,” said Workman.
“Your self-discipline, commitment and hard work has been richly rewarded.
“Thank you too, to our learners’ parents and families, for their support and encouragement and last but not least, thanks goes to our very diligent, able and caring teaching and support staff.
“It is gratifying that these superb results have been achieved within the context of an holistic education.
“Central to this has been the inculcation of immutable values and life skills.
“Whilst we are proud of what our 2019 matrics have achieved in academics, on the sports field and on stage; it is exciting to know that this is just the beginning.
“The best is yet to come and we look forward to following and celebrating the future successes of the class of 2019 in their tertiary studies, in their chosen careers and in their personal pursuits.
“We encourage them to strive to make our world a safer, kinder and happier place, but above all we wish them happy, purposeful and fulfilling lives.”
