Swift action leads to arrest of alleged house robbers

Elsburg police apprehend two men on a charge of house robbery.

While recently asleep in his Elsburg home a man was awoken by a knock on his door.

“The man went to investigate as he was sure he recognised the voices of his neighbours,” explained Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg police.

“When he opened the door he discovered that it was indeed his neighbours, but to his amazement one of the men was allegedly in possession of a knife.”

The suspects reportedly grabbed the victim and took his cellphone.

“The men allegedly forced him back to his bedroom, at knifepoint, where they took an undisclosed amount of money, his passport and a padlock,” said Phooko.

“The men made off with the stolen items and the victim alerted the police.”

Through an intelligence-driven operation, held in the Elsburg policing precinct, detectives were able to trace and arrest the two suspects.

The men, aged between 22 and 34 years old, were arrested on a charge of house robbery.

The pair have since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.

Elsburg SAPS station commander Col Linah Thethe applauded the members who contributed to the successful arrests and further encouraged the officers to keep up the good work.
