Young dancers aim to thrill in New York

New York is going to see South Africa’s passion for dancing.

Passion Arsenal Youth Development Organisation hosted its annual fund-raising dance at the Germiston Library auditorium recently.

The organisation is a non-profit organisation founded in 1993 by Nelisiwe Matrose and her sister Nonhlanhla Mazila.

Passion, which is situated in Katlehong, focuses on teaching dance to children from underprivileged homes in Katlehong, Thokoza and Vosloorus.

“These children come from poor homes with no support system, so we help by teaching them hip-hop, contemporary and ballet dancing which will help them get out there and give them the exposure they need to build up strong lives for themselves,” said Matrose.

“We teach 500 children and their costumes and leotards are bought with money from our own pockets.”

Passion is proud that their dancers have been accepted to represent South Africa at the International Modelling and Talent Association (IMTA) convention in New York, in the USA, in July 2020.

“We want to see our talented dancers in New York next year, and we want them to come home with good news for South Africa,” said Matrose.

IMTA is a professional organisation for aspiring models, singers, actors and dancers, and the dancers for Passion have a chance to show off their South African flair.

“It is their dream to go to New York and they are very talented, so we cannot let their dream go down the drain,” said Matrose.

During the event the Passion dancers put on a stunning display with their black and white polka dot outfits and luminous jumpsuits.

If there is any individual or local company who would like to sponsor Passion Arsenal Youth Development Organisation they can contact Matrose on 082 096 2339 or Mazila on 072 640 0468.
