Fire destroys Parkhill Gardens home

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) respond swiftly to a Parkhill Gardens house fire.

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) firefighters rushed to Parkhill Gardens, last Sunday, in response to a house fire.

“Firefighters from the Germiston Central Fire Station responded swiftly to the scene in Baird Avenue,” said William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for DEMS.

“Personnel from Boksburg Central and Wadeville fire stations responded to the call for back-up.

“Crews arrived with a major pumper, rescue pumper and water tanker to extinguish the blaze.”

Upon their arrival firefighters found that part of the home’s roof had already collapsed and the fire had spread throughout the house and to an outside building.

“Direct fire suppression was activated,” said Ntladi.

“Multiple gas cylinders were removed from the burning building.

“It was reported, by a member of the public, that prior to the arrival of DEMS, a gas cylinder had exploded and aggravated the intensity of fire.”

Ntladi further reported a bedroom and its walk-in-closet, the kitchen and a living room were damaged in the fire, while the house’s remaining rooms suffered water and smoke damage.

“Two people, a man and woman, were identified to have inhaled smoke during the fire, but, unfortunately, they both refused transportation to a medical facility,” explained Ntladi.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
