“We urge residents who will be receiving ‘stokvel’ money this festive season to have this money deposited directly into their bank accounts,” warned Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“This comes after reports that victims are being lured to secluded areas where they are promised they will receive their money.

“This is, however, not the case and the victims are often robbed or even raped.

“We, therefore, appeal to our community not to make themselves vulnerable to such scams.”

Maome further insisted that the Primrose police will be out in their numbers to see to it that the community is kept safe throughout the festive season.
