One arrested, one on the run following woman’s rape

Primrose police arrest man on a charge of rape and search for another connected to the crime.

A woman fled to the Primrose Police Station, last Sunday, after allegedly being raped in the Makause informal settlement.

“The victim alleged that she left her shack last Saturday night to buy beer from a local tavern,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“On her way home she was approached by two men, one armed with a sharp object.

“The men allegedly demanded money from her and when she could not give them any they dragged her to an open field where they reportedly took turns raping her.”

The woman’s ordeal did not end there.

“One of the suspects allegedly took the woman from the field to his shack where he allegedly continued to rape her,” said Maome.

“The victim claimed she asked the suspect to set her free so she could go back home to her child, but he allegedly ignored her pleas and locked her in the shack.”

The woman tried to escape and screamed for help, but this only woke her alleged attacker.

“When the suspect woke up he allegedly raped the victim again,” Maome said.

“Once he had fallen asleep again the woman was able to find the key for the locked door and escaped.

“She came straight to the police station.”

Police were able to trace and arrest the 28-year-old suspect, using the description given by the victim.

He was arrested on a charge of rape.

Police are searching for the other suspect.

“We appeal to the community not to walk alone at night as they make themselves vulnerable to crime,” said Maome.

The suspect has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, where his case was postponed for a bail application.
