Man found with unlicensed firearm

Primrose police apprehended a man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.

Acting on a tip-off officers from the Primrose Police Station travelled to Tulip Road, last Monday.

“Police received information that a man in Tulip Road was in possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition stolen during a recent robbery,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“When officers arrived at the address given they found a group of men.

“They introduced themselves and asked to search the men.”

On the right hip of a 36-year-old man the officers found a black firearm and 11 rounds of live ammunition.

“They asked the man for his firearm licence, which he was unable to provide,” said Maome.

“He was arrested and taken to the Primrose Police Station.”

The accused will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
