Wrestlers conquer SA Championships

Elsburg Wrestling Club wrestlers Latoya Mbena, CJ Engelbrecht, Lillian Mabena and Danielle Pio travelled to Pretoria last Saturday to take part in the South African Championships.

The event was held at the University of Pretoria sports grounds.

Mabena and Pio earned their national colours after they each won a gold medal in their respective divisions.

Mbena came second in her division, earning a silver medal.

“Excellent wrestling was displayed throughout the championships and despite Engelbrecht giving his all, he was unable to beat his opponent,” explained Joep Joubert, media liaison for Elsburg Wrestling Club.

“He is very positive that next year will be his lucky year.

“We are very proud of all our wrestlers and their achievements, not only at the SA Championships but throughout the year.

“Thank you to all our wrestlers, coaches, officials, parents and members for their loyalty, support and hard work, it is appreciated.”
