Meeting and door-to-door visits discuss service delivery in Ward 92

The ANC Ekurhuleni caucus held a public meeting in Ward 92.

As part of ensuring accountability to the citizens of Ekurhuleni, the ANC Ekurhuleni caucus, led by chief whip Clr Jongizizwe Dlabathi, delivered a service delivery report to hundreds of residents at a public meeting in Ward 92 last Tuesday.

The meeting was held at Sizwe Secondary School in Elandsfontein.

In his address, Dlabathi articulated some of the government programmes and ANC Ekurhuleni caucus focus areas.

ANC councillors began the day with door-to-door visits in Emabondweni informal settlement and in another five voting districts where a number of service delivery issues were identified.

These include lack of proper water and sanitation, electricity, illegal dumping and waste removal, and the billing system among others.

“We strongly believe that by making the area livable, it will bring dignity to our people, especially those who are staying in informal settlement areas such as Emabondweni.

“Therefore, an assessment of the number of chemical toilets required in the area will take place,” said Dlabathi.

The metro has committed to build 100 000 houses and prepare 59 000 serviced stands in the current term of office.

So far, the metro has built 26 000 houses.

Dlabathi added that to ensure that the caucus becomes a responsive caucus, the following IDP priorities have been earmarked for development in Ward 92:

• Development of ERF 40/63 IR, between Olifant, Serenade, Amber and Kraft roads in Elandsfontein and development of a taxi rank on this stand with an upper level for a multi-purpose centre with a library and indoor sports facility.

• Rehabilitation and upgrading of electricity network in Northern Germiston prioritising the small cables supplying the households of Elandsfontein, Elandsfontein Rail, Sunnyridge, Sunnyrock, Gerdview, Homestead, Activia Park, Rustivia and Wannenburghoogte and Primrose, as well as the rehabilitation of Sunnyridge Substation.

• Refurbishment of the sewer infrastructure in Elandsfontein Rail, Meadowdale, Klopper Park, Harmelia, Highway Gardens and Buurendal.

• Replacement of the stormwater channel between Cowie and Cunninghan roads and Beverly Avenue in Highway Gardens and to increase the capacity of Buurendal Dam.

• Upgrade and rehabilitation of the Marlands Substation and upgrade of small cables leading from the Marlands Substation to the households of Marlands, Woodmere and Primrose East.

Dlabathi also introduced the ANC’s ward councillor candidate, Harold Thomas, to the community of Ward 92.

The position of Ward 92 councillor became vacant after the DA ward councillor resigned.

The Ward 92 by-elections will be held on October 23.
