Top archers draw closer to a spot in the national team

Top archers in Ekurhuleni aim to shoot straight into inter-provincials.

Archers in the National Archery in the Schools Programme (NASP) South Africa competed in their respective provincial championships, across the country, last Saturday.

NASP Gauteng was divided into two groups in the early stages of the programme introduced 11 years ago.

NASP Ekurhuleni hosted 281 archers at Laerskool Elspark in the provincial championships.

When the programme started, it only had 16 participants, now over a decade later, it saw 1 310 archers participate in the provincial championships in their respective provinces.

The top 16 archers from each province will score a place in the upcoming archery inter-provincial competition to be held in Emalahleni from September 24 to 26, where they will compete for a spot in the national team.

The 281 archers, respectively, competed in various categories in the morning, namely primary teams, junior high teams and Adult Archery Group (AAG).

AAG was formed last year to give parents of children in NASP an opportunity to learn more about the sport.
