Update: Water estimated to be fully restored by 10pm tonight

Metro urges residents to use water sparingly as system recovers after three day outage.

“As communicated earlier today the pipeline that burst over the weekend has been successfully repaired.

“It is anticipated that consumers will have water today (Monday) by the afternoon to late evening,” Rand Water said in a statement this afternoon.

This comes after several suburbs including Sunnyridge, Sunnyrock, Solheim, Fishers’ Hill, Dawnview, Symhurst, Wanneburg, Gerdview, Homestead, Rustavia, Elandsfotein, Klopper Park and parts of Primrose were left without water for almost three days, after a supply line pipe burst.

Spokesperson for the metro Themba Gadebe said, “The metro has been advised that Rand Water has completed the repairs to the burst water pipe that has caused water interruptions in some areas of Ekurhuleni.

“Rand Water has started to pump water through the pipeline.

“Due to the extent of the repairs and the time it took to complete the work, resulting in the network going for longer without water, most reservoirs are at lower levels.

“This has affected critical points of the reticulation network.

“We, therefore, foresee a slight delay in having the network stable.

“Full restoration will probably be at 10pm tonight.”

Gadebe further stated that residents should expect low water pressure at first, but that this would be restored to normal in time.

“Consumers are advised to use water sparingly during the restoration period, while supply reaches all areas, especially high-laying areas,” Gadebe said.
