High energy Zumbathon a great success

Community get their bodies moving at Rest-a-While Service Centre for the Elderly’s charity Zumbathon.

The community flocked to Rest-a-While Service Centre for the Elderly last Saturday, where they got active for a good cause.

The charity Zumbathon was part of the centre’s Mandela Day celebrations and encouraged residents, young and old, to get their bodies moving.

“It was such a fun and successful event,” said centre manager Trudy Carreira.

“We are being asked when we are planning on introducing Zumba classes to the centre as the event was enjoyed so much.”

All of the proceeds raised on the day will be donated to charity.

Zumba was not the only thing on offer at the centre.

Community members could order and enjoy a flavour-filled Durban-style lamb curry bunny chow, lovingly prepared by Rest-a-While member Shirley Maharaj on behalf of the centre.

The sale of the bunny chows helped Rest-a-While raise some much-needed funds.

“We have not received our government subsidy for three months and are slowly running out of resources,” said Trudy.

“Through this fund-raiser, we raised funds to help sustain our members for the coming months.

“A big thank you goes to our sponsors Red Bin Brigade Primrose in conjunction with Mamba Security, Checkers Hyper Edenvale, Circinus Security, CS Continental Butchery Oak Avenue, Cherrywood Estates, Antoinette van Staden and the team from Z Dance Fitness, Theresa de Villiers and her team of line dancers and Kade Guerreiro for making our fund-raising a huge success.”

The community is encouraged to donate non-perishable food to the centre to help them sustain their members during this difficult time.

For more information on the centre or how to make a donation, call Trudy or Michelle Bezuidenhout on 011 828 3059.
