Championing talent in Africa, on the pitch and beyond

Eight more Gauteng schools to participate in Total’s soccer initiative.

Makgauta Moshowadi, from Clarens Combined School in Clarens, in the Free State, and Moon Melwane, of Maikalelo Primary School, in Olifantshoek, Northern Cape, were selected as the top players from each school in the Total schools’ tournament held across South Africa last month.

The two were part of a lucky draw in which they won tickets to attend the finals of the Total African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Egypt.

In celebration of the Total AFCON 2019, Total wanted to create more opportunities for the youth to participate in grassroots soccer.

“We have seen the impact that getting involved in sport can have in terms of keeping a child in school and off the streets,” said Reina Cullinan, Total South Africa’s corporate communications and marketing manager.

Total South Africa partnered up with 32 schools across the country, including Ekurhuleni Primary School in Dukathole and Sekgotlong Primary School in Katlehong, and ran a nationwide schools tournament in the run-up to the Total AFCON 2019.

The initiative has been a huge success, so much so that Total is planning on extending it to eight more schools in Gauteng.

During this leg of the tournament, Total will visit Primrose Primary School next Wednesday for a thrilling day of football and the nurturing of football culture.

Learners will participate in skills-based football activities and, in addition, there will be a safety session at the school to highlight the importance of road safety in a fun and engaging way.
