Much-needed sports equipment donated to local school
The Department of Sports and Recreation in the metro and MMC for Community Services Clr Dora Mlambo recently made a stop at Ithembelihle LSEN School with a special donation.
Atwell Sijadu, the director of sports and recreation in the metro, and MMC for Community Services Clr Dora Mlambo combined their offices for a good cause last Thursday.
The two administrations donated much-needed sports equipment to Ithembelihle LSEN School.
Learners accepted tennis and table tennis equipment, soccer kits, cones, swimming caps, goggles, floaters, swim fins and sunscreen.
“Our view is that all children participating in sport must have access to the correct equipment needed for those specific sporting codes,” said Sijadu.
“As a department, our efforts need to be visible in schools such as Ithembelihle as the learners are often uplifted when taking part in the various events and many of them are extremely gifted.
“The school had previously mentioned the need for boccia equipment. Though it is not a part of the donation today, we will return in a few weeks for that special delivery.”
