Operation Paseka takes to the streets of Katlehong

Katlehong police share their successes.

Katlehong police took to the streets last Tuesday as part of Operation Paseka.

During the operation, conducted by members of the Katlehong police’s Crime Prevention Unit, five suspects were arrested.

The accused were arrested for various offences.

Charges included assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, malicious damage to property, shoplifting and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

A 34-year-old man was arrested on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition after police received a tip-off from the community.

“Police received information from the community and rushed to Mnisi Section in Katlehong where they found the accused and the firearm,” explained Capt Mega Ndobe, spokesperson for the Katlehong police.

“The firearm’s serial number had been filed away.

“Five rounds of live ammunition were also found in the suspect’s possession.”

Officers seized the firearm, which will be sent for ballistics testing, and arrested the man.

All of the arrested suspects appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court, where their cases were postponed for various reasons.

Katlehong SAPS station commander Brig Sammy Thambo thanked everyone who contributed to the successful arrests.

He further encouraged the community to report crimes as they happen.
