Print Exclusive: Alan and Joan celebrate blue sapphire anniversary
This year Alan Diesel and his wife Joan celebrate the Easter holidays with an added special blue sapphire wedding anniversary.
One afternoon, in 1947, while test driving his Ford truck after reworking a fault with an acquaintance, Alan Diesel met his future wife, Joan.
Joan was part of the local Catholic Youth Club in Bloemfontein and on that afternoon, she invited her cousins and a few of their friends to attend her club’s upcoming soirée.
Alan was a part of the group.
At the church gathering, Alan and Joan socialised and cracked a few jokes together, leading to Alan asking if he could take her home.
“She declined my offer when I offered to take her home,” Alan recalled.
“See, I was still driving my Ford with no floorboards and her boyfriend at the time drove a snazzy MG.”
