Germiston celebrate first Super League win

Germiston City FC defeats Boksburg Football Club and clinches first Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League win of the season.

Germiston City Football Club travelled to Prince George’s Park, in Boksburg, last Saturday to face Boksburg Football Club in their latest Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League fixture.

The club’s first team, desperate for a Super League win, and five players short had to draw players from the reserve side to fill their team for the clash.

Germiston, seemingly the stronger of the two sides, were the first to put a point on the scoreboard with an early goal from Eddy Mokotedi.

However, the club seemed to fall back into their old patterns of behaviour squandering two chances at goal.

“Striker Anthony Uzochukwu definitely did not seem to have his shooting boots on,” said club chairperson Peter Oliver.

Germiston allowed the hope of winning to slip even further with some poor defending, which led to two rapid succession goals from Boksburg.

The club seemed to bounce back seconds before half-time, with Mokotedi scoring his second goal of the match.

Leaving the teams tied at 2-2 heading into the break.

During the half-time break coach Sreten Pavlovic did not mince his words and urged the team to step up and play their own style of football and not to let the opposition dictate the flow of play.

Pavlovic made two changes in the second half.

The changes seemed to do the trick and Rufai Tunde soon scored the club’s third goal.

This was soon followed by another from Mokotedi pushing the team into the lead.

A fifth and final goal of the match from Takudswa Jack secured Germiston their first win in the Super League.

The final score was 5-2 in favour of Germiston.

Germiston reserve team also celebrated a win beating their Boksburg opponents 5-2.
